Our number 1 ranked game copy software and "TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award Winner" is CloneCD from Slysoft. CloneCD is great at removing and emulating today’s game copy protections. CloneCD is easy to use, allowing you to create high–quality, backup copies of your favorite PC and console video games fairly easily. However, we had difficulty with customer support.

Ease of Use:  

CloneCD is remarkably easy to use. Featuring a simple, four–button navigation design, you can: Create an Image, Burn an Image, Copy a CD and Erase a CD. But the real simplicity is in CloneCD’s Pre–Made Profiles. Even a novice can do it—select the type of CD to backup (Auto CD, Data CD or Protected PC Game) and the program automatically determines correct settings for creating a successful game copy.

In the rare case that CloneCD’s Pre–Made Profiles fail to create a successful copy, there are many additional profiles that have been created—each specific to a particular game’s copy protection. These additional profiles can be downloaded from the Internet.

Ease of Setup:  

The installation of CloneCD was a snap.

Feature Set:  

CloneCD offers many top game copy features including the ability to hide your burners ATIP. This means that even though some copy protections are designed to keep you from playing games from a burner, CloneCD will allow you to.

Because of its popularity, many Third-Party Applications are specifically designed to work with CloneCD, making it that much easier to make backup copies of games with even the toughest copy protections.

Quality of Copy:  

All of the backup copies we made with CloneCD worked flawlessly. We couldn’t tell the difference between the original and the backup copy while playing the game.

Protection Removal:  

CloneCD successfully creates backup copies for most PC games on the market as well as all PlayStation1 (PS1), PS2 and XBox games. CloneCD also does a great job at making image files (an exact copy of a game) to your hard drive. With the proper settings, CloneCD copies, emulates, amplifies and ignores all the right areas of a game’s copy protection to give you the best backup copy possible.

(Note: You must modify XBox and PS2 consoles before copied games can be played on them and XBox games also require a DVD Burner and additional software to make a working copy).

Help/Documentation:  

CloneCD’s best support is its forums, available through links provided in their website’s help section. These forums offer detailed tutorials and answers to game–specific questions.

Summary:  

CloneCD by SlySoft is fine product for making quality backup copies of PC and console video games alike. It’s simple design and useful features make it easy for anyone, from game copy novice to pro, to overcome protections placed on games successfully.
